Well I'd be able to stomach it by imagining it as anime. It's how I managed to read the fucking Translator.

Ok now what I'm thinking is that beast companions should start as basic animals and as the story progresses maybe they gain new powers through enchantments placed upon them.

Why would they need enchantments and powers? They're already way better than humans.
